Environmental Benefits
After water, concrete is the most consumed substance on earth, with 2.5 tonnes of concrete poured for every person on the planet every year. The active ingredient for concrete is cement used as binder, whose production is responsible for 5% of global CO2 emissions.
This is due to the way cement is manufactured (very high energy demands and the high carbon content of the raw material: limestone). For every tonne of cement produced, a tonne of CO2 is released into the atmosphere, an alarming figure for a widely used construction material.
Ecocem utilises the Best Available Technology to manufacture a binder with a carbon footprint 16 times lower than traditional cements produced in the Netherlands.
The resulting concrete made with eco₂cem is stronger, longer lasting and better looking than traditional concrete. All of these benefits come at no extra cost to the end user.
Benefits:
Eco₂cem’s GGBS will future proof your project against changes due to climate change and ensure the increased life span of your project. Benefits include:
Lean Design
Using eco₂cem offers improved structural performance contributing to enhanced design and contributing to the overall lean design of the project.
Albedo Effect
Albedo is the percentage of incoming radiation reflected off a surface. Using eco₂cem will lead to a lighter more reflective surface greatly increasing the reflection of incoming radiation and a reduction in global warming.
Green Building Rating systems
Eco₂cem contributes to green building rating systems such as LEED and BREEAM. Ecocem offer an in house LEED Green Associate to assist you with all your needs contact us here.
